I think we have made this mistake before when our candidate won (I’m looking at you, Barack.) Whether one’s candidate wins or loses, it’s never the end of the story. Paraphrasing Oscar Wilde, that’s the problem with democracy. It takes far too many evenings. But I digress.
Elections are just the start of a new chapter in the work of a democratic republic. When our team is in power, we must work to support them, defend them, apply popular pressure if they stray from the platform. And if the other team is elected, we defend past gains, call out the opposition’s transgressions against our core values, and rebuild for the next round. Here’s to the next chapter.
